About
A technologist who kept asking why.
I am Afvensu Ibisu — a digital strategist and experience designer. My work sits where digital systems, human experience, organisational needs and business value meet.
I started in information technology — the practical business of making systems work. A BSc in Information Technology at Salem University, Lokoja gave me the technical grounding; the years that followed gave me the part that matters more, which is seeing what happens to technology once real people and real organisations get hold of it.
That question led me to information systems. During my MSc at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, I developed a gamification model for personalised e-learning and implemented it in WordPress. It was a technical project on the surface, but the actual subject was motivation: why people engage with a system, and how design either earns that engagement or assumes it.
Information systems led naturally into instructional design. As an instructional systems designer and learning operations specialist working on postgraduate STEM and technology curricula, the task was to take dense, high-level technical texts and turn them into learning that could actually be delivered — session-level objectives, video scripts, lab methodologies, interactive activities and the operational pipeline that carries all of it into a live environment.
From there the scope widened rather than changed: instructional design into learning experience and interaction design, then into interactive and immersive learning, gamified experience design and broader UX. The unit of design grew from a session, to an experience, to a system.
My practice has since spread across digital strategy, web development and digital platforms, e-learning, tourism, interactive and immersive learning, IT support and management, content and digital communication, geo-location and listing systems, and digital business. The breadth is not accidental. Working across implementation and strategy is what makes it possible to say honestly whether an idea will survive contact with delivery.
In 2026 I published Adaptive Organisational Engineering: Bounded Adaptability as a Principle of Organisational Architecture on SSRN — a conceptual framework rather than a validated method, and the clearest statement so far of where the work is heading.
Increasingly, my attention is on organisations themselves — how they adapt, how their structure either enables or quietly resists the change they say they want, and what sustainable value looks like when technology, people and purpose are designed together rather than separately. That is the direction I am building towards: digital business strategy, organisational change and experience design as one practice rather than three.
I’m based in Nigeria and work with organisations globally.
